Job Description

The Global Solution Architect (GSA) builds complex solutions that leverages designs from existing portfolio of reference architectures and identifies unique opportunities to incorporate technology components found in the larger Equinix ecosystems & solutions offers. The GSA will possess a general awareness of and industry technology trends used in those complex solutions development.

The role is to provide Technology subject matter expertise and the appropriate application digital transformation strategies to help Equinix clients achieve their business goals through a consultative selling. The GSA will support qualified opportunities with a heavy bias towards Demand Creation & Capture activities in the field.

The successful candidate is likely to have:

  • Extensive domain knowledge in Networking, Cloud and Enterprise Architecture with 5-10 years of proven experience in these fields.

  • Technical and commercial knowledge of network operator topologies, global cloud service providers’ IaaS / PaaS / SaaS computing platforms, and IP/BGP routing.

  • An undergraduate degree in a related field (technical, professional, business).

  • Industry certification highly regarded. Advanced industry certifications in lieu of degree (Example: Cisco/Microsoft/AWS - Associate / Professional)

Responsibilities

Sales Support

  • Provides technology support on Platform Equinix Edge product portfolio to sales and channel community

  • Prepares and conducts customer technical workshops, demos, enablements, with audiences that include senior leadership of customers and partners

  • Distil complex products into customer outcomes which can be easily articulated to sales and customers

  • Understands customer business value and able to translate business challenges and requirements into solutions

  • Proactively developing and maintaining relationships with customer and partner key stakeholders

  • Helps to develop Edge product portfolio use cases

  • Liaise with Equinix internal key stakeholders to ensure seamless solution implementation of Edge Products

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • External  

    • Key customer stakeholders up to senior management level

    • Technology providers and peers in the industry

  • Internal

    • All teams centred around the customer (sales, sales support, customer care, NetOps regional product, regional channel, etc.)

    • Leads engagements with colleagues internationally to drive global solutions

    • Collate customer feedback on our Edge Services and interface with Product and Global Principals to ensure that our roadmap alignment

    • Drive activities with Global Technical Sales team members to share findings, document knowledge and improve customer experience and consumption

Technology and Innovation Insights

  • Provides technical subject matter expertise to Sales, Marketing and the Industry through participation in creating, developing and delivering content for proposals, marketing studies and marketing events

  • Supports the briefing of Sales teams on the impact of new technology

  • Supports the briefing of Sales teams on the features, restrictions and selling points of new Equinix products and offers

Solution Development

  • Identifies and analyzes opportunities and problems within customer context, business plans, technological statuses, and strategic direction

  • Identifies and develops solutions in technology, processes, organizational, impact, commercials, and implementation plans

  • Develops solution benefits and business cases for change

  • Shares findings in customer presentations

Technology Domains

  • Strong technical expertise in following domains:

  • Networking

    • Technical and commercial knowledge of Tier 1/2 ISPs topology and architecture and IP routing is required.

    • Experience with Network Peering, CDN’s, fault tolerant designs, and QoS mapping

    • Proficient with common networking telecom concepts: routing and switching protocols, MPLS and IPVN services

    • Experience with SD-WAN and NFV technologies

  • Cloud Computing

    • Public, Private and Hybrid cloud solution design, deployment methodologies and reference architectures

    • Software-Defined and API-driven interconnection solutions, network automation, virtualization and configuration management solutions. Some examples include – Terraform, Kubernetes, Puppet, Chef, Cloud Formation & Openstack.

    • Containers (Kubernetes, Docker), Systems (BMC etc)

    • Hypervisors and Virtualisation technologies including those made by VMWare ESX, ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix XenServer, Oracle VM, Nutanix etc

    • Major public clouds and NFV vendors

    • Bare-Metal as a Service (Incorporating sizing, workload identification, architectural requirements)

  • Modern software development methodologies, supporting DevOps, CI/CD efforts, as well as Infrastructure design and development.

  • Storage technologies such as iSCSI, NFS, SAN (Pure Storage, DellEMC, vSAN etc.)

  • Compute OS platform such as Ubuntu, RHEL & Windows.

Strategic and Business Acumen:

  • Demonstrate good knowledge of the local market and global IT industry trends

  • Comfortable engaging in strategic business value conversations with customer CXO level personas
