Director, Operational Environmental Sustainability (Global)

Purpose:

To lead the development Equinix strategy for operational environmental sustainability across our data centers internationally.  Providing guidance to local teams for the successful implementation and global roll out of the strategy. Acting as the cross functional leader for environmental sustainability across Equinix datacenter operations

Main responsibilities and accountabilities of the role

Day to day:

• Drive strategic planning and priorities for sustainability in data center operations
• Establish and track against KPIs, SLAs, and metrics (incl. performance and budget)
• Ensure consistent customer, vendor and staff experience and on-the-ground response across all data centers
• Develops and implement policies and procedures to ensure global consistency and effectiveness
• Develops tools for all stakeholders in environmental sustainability to have visibility on status and progress of initiatives
• Contribute to and/or support other departments to achieve endorsed business objectives
• Coordinate with global design and construction team to ensure global consistency and effectiveness
• Coordinates with global and regional (GOE & ROE) operational teams to ensure global consistency and effectiveness
• Participates in regional initiatives to further develop our vision
• Acts as the Equinix representative for all external inquiries around our operational environmental sustainability
• Formalizing our operations approach to meeting our climate targets including Science-based Targets, Global Climate-Neutral Goal and EU Climate Neutral Data Centre Operator Pact
• Recommending, improving and executing measurement and reporting across Operations including PUE, WUE, carbon emissions, refrigerants, energy efficiency, electric vehicle chargers and more.
• Advocating and leading operational changes, including project-level support, developing business cases and conducting stakeholder engagement to ensure alignment across the organization both globally and regionally
• Partnering closely with other functional business groups including Sustainability Program Office, Global Design and Construction, Renewable Energy and Cleantech, Government Relations, Corporate Development, Country Managing Directors, Sales and Marketing
• Increasing alignment and interest across Operations towards innovation and building and operating the Data Center of the Future including deploying new concepts such as liquid cooling and AI/ML solutions to drive efficiency

Leadership characteristics of the role

Knowledge and Experience

• Demonstrated track record of data center operations management and maintenance or similar; leadership and cross functional management experience
• Experience optimizing a growing and evolving business – leading a large organization through a period of rapid growth, merger integration, or business transition
• Experienced in leading and operating in a matrix environment
