Manager, Platform Engineering

Job Summary: Equinix Metal, a leading bare metal cloud provider, is looking for an Engineering Manager within Metal Platform Engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the engineering and operations of our globally distributed, highly available, bare metal machine provisioning platform. This role can be remote or based in one of our office locations.

Responsibilities

• Mentor, coach, and grow a team of highly proficient engineers while cultivating a collaborative engineering culture across the organization

• Live and breath the developer experience with the platform we are responsible for caring and feeding for - when our customers win, we win

• Deal with ambiguity and drive to the heart of problems - be an expert at improvising forward

• Seek out weaknesses, identify problems and solutions, approach every day with a self-starter attitude and a focus on resolving problems while not getting bogged down in a constantly changing landscape

• Proactively contribute to our ecosystem of documentation, tools, or processes regardless of “who owns what”

• Deeply care about technology, your craft and about the success of your teammates and the company - strong intrinsic motivators to help drive self-improvement is a must

• Help drive software design and improvements to our system architecture, ensuring components are built to last and meet the needs of our customers

Qualifications

• Ability to think strategically and execute on time-sensitive tasks with a sense of urgency

• Detail oriented with the ability to track and manage work streams for multiple projects continuously with strong communication skills to ensure alignment across the organization

• Previous experience leading teams in some capacity

• Ability to provide guidance and leadership to engineers even when there may be ambiguity around the requirements or expectations, while also helping make and communicate any risk/reward trade offs

• Passionate about continuous improvement, continuous delivery, and not just because they are buzzwords - but because you’ve seen first hand the value that investment in those areas can offer

• Preference given to candidates with existing hands-on experience as an engineer

• An understanding and respect for what it takes to run highly available, reliable, and performant distributed systems / services and ideally previous hands-on experience doing so

• 1+ years professional experience in a software development leadership role

• Bachelor's in Engineering preferred

In accordance with Colorado State Law (https://leg.colorado.gov/bills/sb19-085) the salary range for Colorado for this role is $134,000 – $187,000 per year with 20% bonus target.
