Job Summary:
SY9 is Equinix Australia’s inaugural Hyperscale data center, and we are looking for a Supervisor/Assistant Manager to drive daily operations and lead a small team to ensure operational excellence for the site. Technical expertise is a must, as well as the ability to successfully directly people manage a team of up to 4 experienced engineers.
There will be a focus on working with fellow supervisor to collaborate regarding resources, ensuring the senior engineers are helping to mentor new and junior staff to the site, and to harness and utilize the existing specialists in the team. This a great opportunity to lead a flagship site and assess individual and overall site capabilities and bring about positive change management and enhance process improvement.
Previous supervisory experience, or proven demonstration of stepping into leadership duties will be highly regarded as will the ability to ensure Equinix safety standards, company values and culture are upheld and always exceeded.
This will be a fast-paced role where you will receive guidance from the SY9 Manager and the position will encompass project work at SY9 and upcoming and ongoing in relation to SY10. The job will be vacated by an employee who has been internally promoted within the business
Key responsibilities:
- Management: Supervise and mentor a team of skilled professionals and support staff. Ensure timely execution of responsibilities and project milestones. Handle personnel matters including salaries, hiring, performance reviews, coaching, and development.
- Maintenance Planning and Execution: Develop and implement comprehensive maintenance plans to ensure the reliability and efficiency of critical facilities. Oversee the execution of preventive and corrective maintenance activities, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
- Vendor Management: Oversee contractor work and operations, ensuring compliance with Equinix standards. Manage vendor relationships and ensure quality service delivery.
- Operational Excellence: Maintain critical facilities infrastructure as part of a close-knit team delivering best-in-class service to our data center customers. Ensure adherence to safety protocols and operational procedures.
- Point of Contact for Projects and Construction Activities: Serve as the primary point of contact for all projects and construction activities within the data center. Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure projects are completed without impact to operations.
- Collaboration: Work with a diverse team of talented professionals who are passionate about what they do. Collaborate with various stakeholders to achieve operational goals.
Qualifications, key skills and attributes:
- Engineering related Degree or Trade Qualified is a must for this role
- Electrical background with HV experience and certification highly regarded
- Capability to harness and utilize senior engineer’s expertise whilst providing close and ongoing support for any developing staff
- Willingness and desire to uphold company values and ensure an inclusive team culture
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex, technical issues autonomously as well as in conjunction with cross-functional or global engineering teams
- Strong Electrical Knowledge with demonstrated ability to solve complex technical issues autonomously and collaboratively with cross-functional or global engineering teams.
- Experience with Maintenance Planning using Maximo or other CMMS tools.
- Understanding of Switching Instructions and MOPs, including the ability to develop, review, and implement them safely and effectively.
- Commitment to Safety and Compliance, ensuring adherence to electrical safety standards and company protocols.
- Excellent Communication and Stakeholder Management Skills for internal and external coordination.
- Desire and Capability to Manage People, including mentoring and supporting team development (does not require prior formal leadership experience but must show readiness and willingness to step into a management role).
- Experience in Critical Environments such as data centers or other mission-critical facilities.
- Conflict Resolution Skills to manage competing priorities and maintain strong relationships with contractors and internal teams.
- Process Improvement and Change Management Capability to enhance operational efficiency and team culture.
- Willingness to Uphold Company Values and foster an inclusive, collaborative team environment.
