For Landmark College computer science student Jaden Clark, this year’s summer “break” meant moving to Frisco, Texas, for his second time to work as an IT project management intern at Equinix—a global leader in the data center and internet connectivity industry. Equinix, a publicly traded company with over 13,000 employees, operates more than 260 data centers in 33 countries. Industry sources estimate that 70–80% of the world’s internet traffic passes through servers renting space in Equinix data centers daily. [www.reit.com]
Jaden described his position as “a bridge between customers and the Equinix product development team to ensure that our business customers got what they needed.” He worked over 30 hours a week and appreciated what he called “a work environment that was neurodivergent-friendly,” highlighting flexible meeting and workspace options, as well as resources like a wellness room.
Equinix is deeply committed to accessibility and neurodiversity. Senior IT Manager Debora Martins, Jaden’s supervisor across both internships, shared, “Equinix views neurodiversity not only as a strength but as a competitive advantage that drives innovation, creativity, and collaboration.” Jaden is one of several Landmark College students to participate in the company’s programming for neurodivergent interns and employees, including another student who completed a remote Equinix internship this summer. Martins added, “We are proud to support neurodiverse talent and grateful for Jaden's meaningful contributions.”
Senior Vice President of Software Engineering AJ Coon, executive sponsor of Equinix’s Accessibility program, emphasized, “Equinix aims to be a strong ally and member of the neurodiversity community.” Supporting early career students like Jaden is “a profoundly rewarding part of our opportunity as leaders of disability and neuro-inclusion in the workplace.” Coon praised Jaden’s impact, noting, “Jaden is a fast learner, driven by his curiosity to understand how things work and how they can be made better. We loved having Jaden on the team and are proud of the work he's doing and the impact that he's driving.”
The partnership between Landmark College and Equinix has been spearheaded by Weslie Ricks, DIB Manager, Accessibility, since 2023. Each year, Weslie has led college-to-career presentations, teaching students to advocate for themselves and introducing them to Equinix’s mission and culture. Weslie’s efforts have helped students gain valuable skills and confidence as they transition from college to the workforce.
Reflecting on the program, Weslie Ricks said, “Our partnership with Landmark College is about more than internships—it’s about empowering students to see themselves as future leaders in tech. We want every student to know that their unique perspectives are valued and needed in this industry.”
Jaden also received academic credit and support throughout his internship from the Landmark College Access to Innovative Education in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (AIE-STEMPLOS) Scholarship Program, funded by an S-STEM grant through the National Science Foundation.
