I joined Equinix in Nov 2010 at our Sunnyvale, California office. As I continued to learn about Equinix's core business model and its ability to connect the world with its robust digital infrastructure, it blew my mind! With 220+ datacenters in 26+ countries, customers can create instant physical and virtual connections to a dynamic global ecosystem of nearly 10,000+ companies, each adding new connections on our platform faster than the next 10 providers combined. In short, Equinix is "Internet's Biggest Landlord" as quoted by Wall Street Journal.
Over the last decade, I got to work on new technologies, new business domains, new products and best of all, I got to collaborate with the best people around the world! In late 2018, I got an opportunity to relocate to Equinix Singapore, to work with our customers & employees in the region.
Before I joined Equinix, I worked as a technology lead at leading technology firms in the US and India to design and develop software applications.
What are you currently working on?
I lead a team of technologists to build software applications on web/mobile platforms and programmable systems (APIs) to help customers consume Platform Equinix products and services. We are on a mission to create a developer ecosystem for the world's digital infrastructure leader where one can consume Equinix products & services via digital channels and further innovate to deliver value to end consumers.
What makes you happy at work and keeps you excited about future of Equinix?
Reaching that "aha" moment during the mind-storming sessions with customers excites me. Being a thought leader during customer presentations & demos, helping them realize the platform Equinix value and driving the next big thing around Developer ecosystems gives me immense motivation to keep going!
How have you developed in your role since joining Equinix?
Starting as a software engineer to leading a team of professionals today as Director of Engineering, is possible only with a people focused organization like Equinix. Equinix leadership always provided timely & professional level training like Management foundations, Gartner Leadership program, Emotional Intelligence and BetterUp Coaching and also encouraged to contribute to global initiatives like Diversity & Inclusion, Wellness, Equinix Impact, etc. that helped me and many of my colleagues to grow both professionally & personally.
How are the products your team is developing helping to make an impact?
My team & I are constantly innovating the way customers & partners consume platform Equinix products & services digitally. We are building programmatic channels and mobile apps that helps customers & partners to automate, integrate and accelerate their digital businesses. This not only helps our customers and partners to improve their operational efficiency to save cost but also helps them to scale & differentiate themselves in the market.
What would be your top tip for someone new joining Equinix?
“Be Authentic and remember attitude is everything”. To standout in the interview, show that you are hungry for the opportunity, be clear on “Why Equinix?” and be yourself.
What are the exciting technologies that you and your team are working on?
At Equinix, we work on the latest and greatest technology stacks promoted in the open source community. Few key technologies are Cloud native apps, API Gateways, Event, Message & Restful API architecture, Mobile Apps (iOS & Android), Containers, applying DevOps Principles for Continuous Integration & Delivery, Agile delivery models, Public Cloud Platforms like Azure, AWS, Google.
How would you describe the culture within your team?
"Customer first" mindset, "Can do" attitude, "Open & transparent" dialogues, "Work Smart, Play Hard" belief!
What is the most challenging part of your job?
For me, staying on top of stakeholder's management within a growing organization is challenging. I have always depended on support from colleagues, team members and leadership team, and I'm happy to say the team always has showed up in need.
What do you enjoy about working for Equinix?
In simple words, "The Magic of Equinix". I would say Equinix puts customers and employees at the center of everything we do! The opportunity to work across the globe with diverse employees on the initiatives that has positively impacted customers and the community, is something magical for me!
